Help: Updating Address Information

Overview

Wolverine Access enables you to update your address information. Employees may update the Current Local address. Students may update the Current Local, Permanent and Diploma addresses.

Step-By-Step Instructions

Modifying an Existing Address

  1. Click Edit next to the address you want to modify.
  2. If the country displayed is incorrect, click Change Country, then search for and select the correct country.
  3. Update the new address information. Review all fields, including CityState, and Postal.
    Notes:
    • Type the address information exactly as it would appear on a mailing label.
    • Students: If you are modifying your Current Local address information:
      • Click Lookup in the Cmps Addr field.
      • Select Family Housing or Residence Hall. Otherwise, select None or leave blank.
  4. Click OK to accept the edited address. 
  5. Verify the information on the Change Address page.
  6. Click Save.
    Note: To cancel the change(s), click Return to Current Addresses.
  7. Click OK on the Save Confirmation page.

Adding an Address

  1. Click ADD A NEW ADDRESS.
  2. If the country displayed is incorrect, click Change Country, then search for and select the correct country.
  3. Enter your address information in the applicable fields.
    Notes:
    • Type the address information exactly as it would appear on a mailing label.
    • Students: If you are modifying your Current Local address information:
      • Click Lookup in the Cmps Addr field.
      • Select Family Housing or Residence Hall. Otherwise, select None or leave blank.
  4. Click OK.
  5. On the Add a New Address page, check the box next to the address type you want to create: Current Local, Permanent,  Diploma.
  6. Enter the date the address will become effective in the Date new address will take effect field.
    Note: Type the date using eight digits with slashes (e.g., 01/01/2003). The date cannot be prior to today's date.
  7. Click Save .
    Note: To cancel, click Return to Current Addresses.
  8. Click OK on the Save Confirmation page.

Deleting an Address

Note: You cannot delete a Current Local or UM Work address. If your Current Local address is no longer valid, you should change the address rather than deleting it.

  1. Click delete next to the address you want to delete.
  2. Accept today's date or enter a future date in the Date delete will take effect field.
    Note: Type the date using eight digits with slashes (e.g., 01/01/2003). The date cannot be prior to today's date.
  3. Click DELETE.
    Note: To cancel, click Return to Current Address.
  4. Click YES - DELETE on the Delete Confirmation page.
    Note: To cancel, click No - Do Not Delete.

Address Definitions

  • Students (including those who are employees) may have a Current Local, Permanent, and Billing address.
  • Employees may have a Current Local and UM Work address.
  • New and Prospective Students may have a Current Local and Permanent address.

Current Local Addresses
(employees, students, and prospective students)
  • Employees: HR-related mailings, including W2/1099 forms, are only sent to the Current Local Address.
  • Students: The address where you reside during the school year. The Current Local and Permanent Address may be the same. Examples of Current Local Addresses include: off-campus residences, U-M residence halls, family housing, fraternities, sororities, and post office boxes.
  • Students: Financial Aid checks/pay stubs are mailed to the Current Local Address; if there is no Current Local Address in the system, they are sent to the Permanent Address or Billing Address (in that order).
  • Prospective Students: The address where you will receive your mail related to your University of Michigan application. The Current Local and Permanent Address may be the same.
Permanent Addresses
(students and prospective students only)
Address is considered the permanent home address. The Permanent and Current Local Address may be the same.
Diploma Addresses 
(graduating students only)
  • Address is considered the Permanent address, unless the diploma is to be mailed to an address different from the graduating student's Permanent address.
  • A Diploma address is not required.
Billing Addresses 
(students only)
Student account statements are not mailed; they are accessible through Wolverine Access.
UM Work Addresses
(employees only)

SEVIS Address
For persons with J visas, a SEVIS address is required. This SEVIS address must be a U.S. address even if you have not yet entered the country.
